6-Hour Power Life

How SDU Students Survive   The first time the light came on that semester, the entire Daddy’s Hostel vibrated.   It was 6:07 p.m. on a Thursday. Someone screamed “Up NEPA!” from the ground floor and within seconds every room door flew open like the rapture had finally chosen Ozoro. Phones that had been lying face-down like dead cockroaches suddenly lit up with green charging symbols. Power banks were abandoned mid-prayer. The corridor turned into a marathon. That night we had exactly six hours. Everybody knew the timetable by heart now: light comes around 6 p.m., disappears by midnight, sometimes 11:45 if the gods were angry. Six hours. That’s all Southern Delta University off-campus students get, and we have turned it into an extreme sport.   My Journey at Southern Delta University: From 100 Level to 300 Level   (Avwerute Igho Wealth – Journalism and Media Studies) The first time I stepped onto the campus of Southern Delta University, Ozoro, I felt completely overwhelmed. The place was far larger than any school I had ever attended. The buildings stretched wide, the walkways seemed endless, and I spent my first week getting lost almost every day. I would ask strangers, “Please, where is the Journalism and Media Studies lecture hall?” only to be pointed in three different directions. By the time I finally located my classes, I was already late, sweating, and wondering whether I had made the right decision coming here. 100 level was a baptism of fire. Everything was new: the people, the rules, the pace of life. Lectures started as early as 8 a.m. in halls that could swallow hundreds of students at once. Some lecturers locked the doors the moment the clock struck the hour; if you were even thirty seconds late, ...

Entrepreneurship at SDU: The Skill-First Revolution Every Student Must Join November 17, 2025 | Skills, Innovation & Future Careers Southern Delta University (SDU) does not just award degrees — it builds businesses. In a country where over 85% of graduates struggle to find jobs, SDU made a radical decision: every single student, no matter the department, must master at least one practical, income-generating skill before graduation. This is not an extra-curricular activity. It is not optional. It is the core of SDU’s philosophy: a degree without a skill is just expensive paper. While many universities remain trapped in theory, SDU has turned every faculty into a live business incubator. From Mass Communication to Agriculture, Engineering to Management Sciences, practical entrepreneurship training is woven into the curriculum. Here is what that looks like in real life. Photography & Visual Storytelling Students go far beyond media theory. They master camera operation, light...
